Ohara is a tranquil rural village located in the mountains of northern Kyoto. The most famous place in Ohara is Sanzenin-temple, which is famous for amazing autumn colours and beautiful cherry blossoms and hydrangea.
However, as a local resident in Kyoto, what I would like to recommend in Ohara is fresh and organic vegetable. Every Sunday morning, from 6:00-9:00, the market is opened and many customers including local people, famous Japanese restaurant chef and tourists are coming to buy fresh and delicious vegetables. Most of them are grown organic and most importantly, sold at very reasonable price.
It takes 30 min from city centre in Kyoto by car or taking bus is another option that is running from Kyoto station via Shijo Kawaramachi. Why not visiting Ohara to spend your time in Kyoto like locals!?
